History:
Canowindra Tweed Byron Aged & Disabled
Aboriginal Corportion was established in May 1991.
The Community Aged Care Package Program commenced
in December 1996.
Funding
was secured in 1995 to establish a five bedroom respite
care centre in Tweed Heads.
At
the time of the opening of the respite care centre
the founders of Canowindra had all passed on and "Cedric
House" is dedicated in memory of them.
Who
is Eligible ?
Aboriginal
& Torres Strait Islander people who are cared
for by family members in preference to nursing home
or hostel care, with low care needs.
Individual needs are assessed by the Aged Care Assessment
Team.
How
long can I stay ?
Stays
can be up to 60 days per year. This can be broken
up into blocks to suit your needs.
What
is provided ?
24
hour care is provided plus all meals. All rooms are
self-contained. All you are required to bring is your
personal items.
How
many clients can be accommodated ?
Five beds in all are available for single and
married couples. One disabled room is available with
wheelchair access for shower and toilet facilities.
What
other activities are provided ?
We also provide day respite care with organised
activities eg. ceramics, crafts, painting, handicrafts,
reading to the visually impaired.
All day respite services include morning tea and lunch
when necessary.
A fee of $3.00 per person per day is charged to cover
the above.
Will
there be any medical treatment carried out at the
centre ?
No
medical treatment is carried out by staff at the centre,
as it is a low care accommodation centre.
Medical treatment can be arranged if required.
Who
much will it cost ?
Cost is 50% of your basic flat rate pension per
fornight or $25.00 per day.
