window as sponsors of Northern Rivers 2001 Tourism
Awards for Business Excellence – Re-edited generic
television commercial to a 15 sec TVC which encouraged
industry operators to enter this year’s tourism
awards. Schedule with NBN television, Northern
Rivers window.
April
- Showcased
winners of Northern Rivers 2001 Tourism Awards
on one page of Aussie Gateways web portal, with links from main
pages and links to individual winner’s
web sites.
May
- Re-edit
of TVC to encourage viewers to log on to Aussie
Gateways and find out who the winners were for
the 2001 Tourism Awards. Schedule
with NBN telecast into Northern Rivers viewing
window.
- Newspaper
advertising in Northern Star re up-coming
competitions for Aussie Gateways. Financial
members who have
given “in-kind” support to project (eg:
Two nights accommodation, helicopter ride,
dinner for two
etc) gained extra promotion from this type
of advertising.
June

Aussie Gateways receiving a Federal Government
grant.

minute live radio interview on Radio 97 re Aussie
Gateways project.

000 full-colour flyers printed. This double-sided
leaflet encourages visitors to plan a holiday in
the Northern Rivers region by accessing the Aussie
Gateways web portal for specific information re
accommodation, restaurants, attractions, tours
etc available within the Northern Rivers.
July
· Television
news story on Prime re Official Launch and Information
Night for Aussie Gateways Project. Concept explained
in news item, footage of launch and also media
resources telecast during local news bulletin.
Viewers were encouraged to access the Aussie Gateways
portal for more information.
· Re-edit
of generic television commercial to include voiceover
inviting tourism industry operators to attend Aussie
Gateways Workshops. Schedule booked with Prime
Television into the Northern Rivers viewing window.
August
· Radio
schedule with Radio 97 inviting industry operators
to attend Aussie Gateways workshop held in Tweed
Heads.
· Written
invitations sent to all members of Tweed And Coolangatta
Tourist Information Centre – 180 in all, inviting
operators to attend the first Aussie Gateways workshop.
· Post
workshop – numerous meetings & presentations
to Southern Gold Coast tourism industry operators
re cooperative media advertising through Aussie
Gateways.
September
· Television
schedule booked with TEN. This TVC invited tourism
industry operators to attend the Aussie Gateways
workshop to be held in Ballina and access the site
for more information.
· Full
colour advertising space taken for Aussie Gateways – entire
back page of ”Byron & Beyond Accommodation
Guide” Booklet. 80 000 copies printed and distributed
Australia wide.
· Invitations
sent to all Ballina Visitor Information Centre
members to attend 2nd Aussie Gateways
workshop.
October
· Written
invitations sent to all members of Lismore Visitor
Information Centre inviting them to attend the
3rd Aussie Gateways workshop. Also encouraged
them to access the portal.
· Newspaper
advertising in the Northern Star on Saturday 20th October,
2001. (Full colour 1/3 page advertisement re
workshops. Also encouraged readers to access the
Aussie Gateways portal for further information.)
· Radio
schedule with 2 LM inviting industry operators
to attend the Lismore workshop and access the Aussie
Gateways portal.
· Paid
submission to LookSmart and Yahoo search
engines to ensure Aussie Gateways portal appears
on early pages in search engines. Since taking
this move, the number of accesses to the Aussie
Gateways portal has increased to 22 000 accesses
per week.
November
· Newspaper
advertising in Northern Star for the first of the
Aussie Gateways competitions. Members who have
supplied prizes for the first of our competitions
are Twin Towns Resort, Tweed Heads; Brunswick Valley
Coach & Travel, Brunswick Heads; Fleurs Restaurant
at All Seasons Motor Inn, Ballina; and Macadamia
Castle, Knockrow.
· Logos
of others who have been “pioneering” members of
Aussie Gateways also had their logos added to the
competition advertisements published in the Northern
Star over a four week period beginning November
17th 2001.
They are Summerland Credit Union, Lismore; North
Star Holiday Resort, Hastings Point; Ocean Shores
Country Club; Points North Holiday Apartments,
Coolangatta; Beach Hotel, Byron Bay; Hotel Brunswick,
Brunswick Heads; Bella Mare Beachside Apartments,
Coolangatta; Paramount Publications House, Byron
Bay, Rainbow Bay Group, Radio 97, Tweed Heads and
Radio 900/2LM Lismore.
· Publication
in Tourism NSW magazine entitled “The Finest.” 20
000 copies of this publication were printed and
distributed throughout NSW to showcase the winners
of various Regional and NSW State Tourism Awards.
Aussie Gateways was included as part of HPP Advertising’s
winning entry in the Northern Rivers Regional Tourism
Awards. Hence, this advertisement encourages potential
visitors to access the regional portal for information
about accommodation centres, places to see and
things to do within the region.
