Waterfall
Way Towns Dorrigo
From where the majestic mountains touch the sky, to
where the tranquil rivers meet the sea, the Bellinger River
meanders through rolling pastures and pristine world hertitage
rain forests, forming the centrepiece of the Bellingen Shire.
Home to picturesque townships of Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga,
plus the villages of Mylestom, Raleigh, Repton and Fernmount,
this delightful area hosts a wealth of interests and activities
for leisure, entertainment and recreation of all kinds.
The Bellingen shire is a part of "Australia's Holiday
Coast", situated half way between Sydney and Brisbane
on the Pacific Highway, one and a half hours from Armidale
on the New England Highway via The Waterfall Way, 20 minutes
south of Coffs Harbour airport and with it's own Railway Station
for the XPT. The Shire is wheel chair friendly and ideal for
family holidays.
The Bellingen Shire stretches from the dizzying heights of
the Dorrigo Plateau to the unspoiled secluded beaches of the
Pacific Ocean. The clear waters of the Bellinger, Kalang,
Never Never, Nymboida, Serpentine and Guy Fawkes rivers run
cool and fresh through tracts of native bushland, nature reserves,
national parks and award winning Tourist areas.
The Waterfall Way connects the Valley, Plateau and Coastal
Areas of this popular Eco Tourism destination, enabling access
to most areas of the Shire in less than 30 minutes.
The Peaceful town of DORRIGO sits 1000 metres above the valley
on the Dorrigo Plateau at the edge of the magnificent escarpment,
it's historical buildings lovingly restored to their original
condition. Dorrigo features the "Sky Walk" at the
National Parks and Wildlife Centre, where you can walk amongst
the treetops or mingle with the birds of the rain forest.
the Centre provides Ranger guided tours during the holidays.
The Southern Hemisphere's largest Steam Railway Museum being
prepared for public access and the magnificent Dangar Falls
are not to be missed.
