| Once again, it has been a busy year and we appreciate very much the
feedback we have received from members. Aussie Gateways has always been
a “team effort” and your input re promotional opportunities and directions
is always appreciated.
Awards Australia Finalists
Recently Aussie Gateways was nominated by the Commonwealth Bank to enter
the NSW/ACT Community
Enterprise Awards. The aim of this Awards Program
is to highlight initiatives being undertaken in regional Australia.
It rewards innovative businesses and recognises the positive image
of regional role models throughout NSW and the ACT. The program is
run by Awards Australia and is sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank,
Prime Television, NSW Department of State and Regional Development,
Local Government Association of NSW and Shires Association of NSW.
Last week we were informed that Aussie Gateways is a finalist in the
business section of this year’s awards. So … congratulations must go
to all members for joining the network, giving your input and helping
us to nurture regional promotions. Aussie Gateways is very much a team
effort so this recognition belongs to all members. The Presentation Night
will be held in Coffs Harbour on October 30th, 2004. If any members would
like to attend please contact Mark or Lisa asap so that tickets can be
ordered. (02) 6680 1424.
Escape With ET Television Program
We were happy with the promotion we received for Aussie Gateways through
the “Escape With ET” program. Andrew Ettingshausen and his crew came
to the Brunswick Valley to do a special feature and as Mark organised
a day of shooting in the valley with ET presenter, Michelle Walsh,
Aussie Gateways received a mention on the show. This was at no cost
to members. We have a VHS copy of the program so if anyone would like
to view it please contact Mark or Lisa. Alternatively access http://www.escapewithet.com/series6/episode7/story2.htm for
a copy of the script.

Fishing Monthly Magazine
Our association with “Fishing Monthly” Magazine has been positive. As
mentioned previously, we have a banner ad at the bottom of each town’s
fishing report on the “Fishing Monthly” web site. Please view www.fishingmonthly.com.au/reports/Fishing-reports/nsw/nswreport.html
We were recently informed that “Fishing Monthly” will be running a one
day fishing competition in Tweed Heads on December 5th, 2004. This is
in preparation for the “Bream Series” competition which will take place
in May 2005. Each of the Fishing Monthly competitions attracts a large
number of participants (and their families) who travel long distances
to take part in these tournaments. We hope our members receive regular
accommodation enquiries through our association with this group. Please
send in any feedback so that we can assess the effectiveness of this
promotion. Once again, this promotion is of no cost to members.

Competition Winners
You may recall our national promotion through Force Ten earlier this
year. It was a fund-raiser for East Timor and members of the Aussie
Gateways network offered a choice of holiday
packages as a prize for
a national raffle. Thanks to Gold Coast Airport, Twin Towns Resort,
Tweed Coast Limousines, North Star Holiday Resort, Tweed Endeavour
Cruises and Blue Room Restaurant at Tweed Heads Bowls Club for offering
prizes. The winners (a couple from Sydney) have chosen North Star Holiday
Resort for their holiday and they arrive on the 25th of October to
spend five relaxing days enjoying all the fantastic facilities there.
Gold Coast Airport has arranged return flights from Sydney, Tweed Coast
Limousines will supply transfers and a tour (in-style), Tweed Endeavour
Cruises has a succulent lunch & cruise arranged and the Blue Room
Restaurant at Tweed Heads Bowls Club has offered a mouth-watering dinner
for two. I’m sure the winners will totally enjoy the week as they experience
some of the best places & services our region has to offer! Special
thanks to all those involved in this promotion.
Holidays With Kids – National & International Magazine
Aussie Gateways is working in association with ”
Holidays With Kids” Magazine to provide maps of the Northern NSW & Southern Gold Coast regions.
It is this kind of destination marketing that assists to firmly position
our region within the national market place.
Please continue to send feedback. Your input is always welcome.
All the best,
Mark & Lisa Russell
